About Rising Sons - Empowering Young Leaders

WHY RISING SONS?

Teenage boys don't need another lesson telling them who they should become.

They need opportunities to discover it themselves.

Rising Sons creates a space where boys can challenge themselves, experience things alongside others, talk, reflect and gradually discover what they're capable of.

It's not about producing better athletes. It's about helping young men grow.

MORE THAN FITNESS

Physical challenge is part of Rising Sons. But it isn't really the point.

Exercise gives boys something to do together. It creates challenge, shared experience and moments when conversations happen naturally.

Along the way, we're creating opportunities to develop confidence, resilience, self-awareness and stronger relationships with others.

The workout is simply the starting point.

WHAT DOES A SESSION LOOK LIKE?

Rising Sons takes place before the school day begins.

Each session combines physical challenge with opportunities to talk, think and connect.

No two sessions are exactly the same. Boys might work through a team challenge, solve a problem together or simply have a conversation while they're doing something.

Sessions finish with a chance to reflect - on what went well, what was difficult and what they might take with them into the rest of the day.

No lectures. No classrooms. Learning happens through doing.

WHAT WE'RE BUILDING

Rising Sons isn't about teaching boys a list of values. It's about creating opportunities to discover and practise them.

01

COURAGE

Having a go, especially when something feels difficult or unfamiliar.

02

CONFIDENCE

Discovering what you're capable of through experience.

03

RESILIENCE

Learning to keep going, adapt and respond when things don't go to plan.

04

BELONGING

Being part of something, contributing to it and knowing that you matter within it.

05

SELF-AWARENESS

06

Understanding yourself, your reactions, and what helps you to thrive.

RESPONSIBILITY

Learning that your choices affect you and the people around you.

WHY RISING SONS EXISTS

I've spent more than 20 years working with people as a physiotherapist, much of it supporting people living with persistent pain.

Over time, I've become increasingly interested in what happens before people reach services like mine. What helps people develop confidence, resilience, connection and the ability to navigate difficult things earlier in life?

My experience with F3 - a volunteer-led community built around physical challenge, friendship and showing up for one another - showed me how powerful those things can be when they're experienced rather than taught.

Rising Sons grew from a simple question:

What if we gave teenage boys more opportunities to experience those things while they're still growing up?

That's what I'm trying to build.
